Campeche is located on the southeast part of the peninsula Yucatan. Campeche was founded around the third century and used to be the principal town. Campeche was founded by two great civilizations: Maya and Spanish. Here the visitors fell at home, because the citizens are very friendly, open-minded and sincere. This place is for slowly walking to see all the unique details of each façade. There are a number of upper-class Spanish mansions, churches and other colonial buildings still standing which serve as the city’s chief attractions. Campeche also has many brightly colored buildings reflective of Caribbean tastes. Campeche has many bastions built to protect the city against attacks and raids by pirates. Today these fortifications are the city’s main attraction. Notable sights in Campeche are: The Cathedral of the Conception, The Main Square, The Church of San Francisco, The San Francisco de Paulo Toro Park, The regional museum, which is known as the Casa del Teniente del Rey, House of the Lieutenant of the King with a collection of European weapons from the 12th to 19th centuries, The main Park, The Church of Saint Joseph, The new Malecon with its beautiful little squares. Campeche have been declared UNESCO as a Heritage of Humanity. In Campeche you can also visit the archaeological zone “El Tigre”, Mayan city Edzna, virgin beaches and unique Haciends.
