>> Gorky Park

Gorky Park is located in the city of Moscow, across the Moscow River, not far from downtown. It was named after the Soviet writer Maxim Gorky.  While the park retains this official name, locals refer to it as “The Park of Culture”. The park is comprised of 100 hectares of gardens, ponds, and recreation areas and sports fields. The main entrance of the park is located on Krimski Val Street near the Park of Culture and Octyabrsckiy Park metro stations. The park was the subject of the novel Gorky Park, which was later made into a film with the same name. The German metal band, Scorpions, achieved great success with their popular single, “Wind of Change”, which references “Gorky Park” in light of the sociopolitical changes taking place in a post Cold War era in Eastern Europe in the early 1990s. Other popular references to the park include a Russian rock band named Gorky Park and the song Vodka by Morena, a singer who represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008.
