Lviv, previously known as Lviv Lemberg in Castilian was named during the period belonged to Austria-Hungary and as is still known in some languages or Lvov by Russian influence, is the capital of the homonymous province, Ukraine. Lviv was an important cultural center for a long time. There are in the city the University of Ivan Franko and numerous theaters and museums. The city has catholic residence, Ukrainian and Armenian orthodox residences, and there are two churches of the fourteenth century. Lviv was founded in the middle Ages, and was a flourishing administrative, religious and commercial center for centuries. The medieval urban topography has been preserved completely intact (particularly, there is evidence of the different ethnic communities living at this area), combined with many Baroque and posterior buildings. This is a birthplace of the pianist Emanuel Ax. In this city was wrote the Scottish book with mathematical problems under the supervision of Stefan Banach. The city is communications and industrial center.
